Working with Kenny Ken

Kenny Durrum embarked on his Project VICTORY journey at St. Anne’s in late 2015, initially contributing to tasks like folding linen and towels. Two years into the program, his dedication led to his promotion as a trainer, where he imparted his knowledge to fellow students. In 2019, Kenny advanced to overseeing package delivery services, serving the residents of St. Anne’s by delivering care packages and personal items.

Regrettably, the St. Anne’s Project VICTORY program concluded in 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak, aligning with Kenny's graduation year from high school in 2020. Notably, Kenny's work ethic and professionalism were nurtured through his involvement in the 5000 Role Models during junior high and early high school years. This early exposure played a significant role in shaping Kenny's impressive work demeanor.

Kenny's achievements extend beyond the realm of academics, notably earning several Special Olympics medals during his high school years. This remarkable feat highlights his dedication and commitment to personal growth and excellence.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Kenny was an active participant in the Homestead Little Baseball league. What sets this apart is the unwavering support he received, allowing him to continue playing for an additional four years even after aging out. This community's extraordinary inclusiveness not only enabled Kenny to contribute to the team but also helped shape his collaborative mindset and exceptional team spirit.

Project VICTORY is a transformative program catering to students with mild to moderate cognitive disabilities, facilitating their transition into the workforce after high school. Since 1986, the Department of Exceptional Student Education has been dedicated to bridging students to employment training opportunities in the community through Project VICTORY. Notably, Kenny's involvement at St. Anne’s exemplifies the program's partnership with community entities to nurture industry-specific skills.

Project VICTORY's holistic approach equips students for financial, personal, and social independence by fostering essential employability skills through hands-on experiences. Transition Program teachers and Transition Specialists guide students in crafting resumes, honing interview skills, and establishing connections with relevant agencies, including the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, as they step into postsecondary life.

As a testament to Kenny's journey, his tenure at St. Anne’s Nursing Center, located at 11855 Quail Roost Drive, Miami, FL 33177, stands as a testament to his growth and achievements within Project VICTORY.

Kenny's journey beautifully showcases the transformative potential of Project VICTORY, further enriched by his early involvement in the 5000 Role Models program, his accomplishments in Special Olympics, and his enduring dedication to baseball.
